Why Sort?

It Combines Your Favorite Streaming Services, Supporting In Minimized Search Time.

The days of scrolling through TV channels and trying to find a show or movie to watch on the couch is now over. My team and I designed an app that gives users that struggle to find content to watch an organizational hub that unites multiple streaming services for effortless viewing. These users no longer have to waste countless minutes from shuffling between apps just to find the perfect content to watch.

Background.

According to Ben Munson, from 2014-2019 percentage of households with multiple OTT (over-the-top) subscriptions has increased by 130%. Owning multiple OTT subscriptions results with having an abundance of diverse media located in different apps.

Problem.

The main problem with this new form of entertainment is shuffling through different apps to try and find what you want to watch, whether it’s keeping track of where you left off or trying to find a new show.

Solution.

We designed an organizational streaming hub that brings all the different media apps into one. With this users are now able to search for specific shows, movies, and even streamers in one location minimizing search time.

How The App Works?

The login screen is the first thing you see as a user, so giving a unique touch to it makes the user feel welcomed and familiar with the brand.

Connecting Accounts

Image

In order to make this an organizational hub the user must connect their accounts from accepted platforms. When leaving Sort to go connect to another application the user is given a screen that familiarizes themselves with the brand, just like the login screen.

TV-Shows & Movies

Image

The first tab on the bottom bar is for TVs and movies. From here the user is suggested most recently watched and then their watchlist, and the user is able to click on the desired show or movie and can see all the previews.

Livestreaming

Image

The second tab on the bottom bar leads to the list of livestreams the user follows. They are first suggested live channels that they can browse horizontally. If they want to see previous VODs the streamer has uploaded they just click on the channel and a list is given to them.

Subscriptions

The third tab on the bottom bar leads to the users subscription details. This tab allows the users to see their subscription analytics regarding their screen time and how much they've been paying. This can be seen for all subcription services and subscribed channels on Twitch/Youtube.

Profile Options

Additionally users are given the option to customize their profile, and they also have a filter option to help reorganize their app to their needs.

Consideration and Growth Opportunities

Sort has potential to be useful for not just users that need content to watch, but even the average consumer. There are still many considerations to take into account such as giving more ogranization options, making the app more familiar to pre-existing streaming services, and fixing up the font/style-guide to be a bit more clean and modern. Future steps that can be taken is to implement more user research and get feedback to further improve the app.
